Information on Benalmadena Pueblo
Benalmádena Pueblo, with its roots tracing back to the 8th century, is undoubtedly the crowning jewel of Benalmádena. This charming village has beautifully preserved its original white-washed buildings, offering a delightful journey back to the Spain of yesteryears. Often likened to Mijas but with a more serene and less crowded ambiance, Benalmádena Pueblo boasts breathtaking views that make it a destination you mustn't miss.
The village's name, Ben-Al-Madina, which translates to "Children of the mine," reflects its history as an iron ore mining settlement. Today, Benalmádena Pueblo retains its quiet, village-like atmosphere, relatively untouched by the full force of tourism, endowing it with a distinctive charm that sets it apart.
At the heart of the village stands Plaza De España, a captivating square adorned with fragrant orange trees. In its center stands the iconic statue of La Niña, sculpted by Jaime Pimentel, serving as the symbol of the village. The local church is a magnificent structure, renowned as one of the finest examples in the Costa del Sol, and its surrounding gardens are equally impressive, offering breathtaking vistas of the picturesque surroundings.
One can't help but be enchanted by the profusion of colorful flowers that grace the village, infusing it with a lively charm. Additionally, Benalmádena Pueblo houses a museum that exhibits a fascinating collection of Pre-Columbian artifacts from South America, as well as local artifacts that predate the arrival of the Romans, making it a historical and cultural treasure trove. This village encapsulates the essence of traditional Spain, making it an enchanting and unique destination on the Costa del Sol.
