Antequera is a traditional Andalusian town located inland in the Málaga province, surrounded by countryside, mountains, and natural parks. Known for its history, churches, and impressive architecture, the town has a more authentic Spanish atmosphere compared to the coastal resorts and is often referred to as the “heart of Andalusia” because of its central location.

2. Historic Centre & Landmarks

The town is filled with historic buildings, churches, plazas, and traditional streets reflecting Roman, Moorish, and Renaissance influences. One of the main landmarks is the Alcazaba of Antequera, which overlooks the town and surrounding countryside. Antequera is also famous for its prehistoric dolmens, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the biggest attractions near Antequera is El Torcal de Antequera, a natural park known for its dramatic limestone rock formations and walking routes. The surrounding area is popular for hiking, photography, birdwatching, and exploring the Andalusian countryside.
