Information on Sohail Castle

1. Overview

Castillo Sohail is a historic hilltop castle located at the western end of Fuengirola, overlooking the sea and the river mouth. It is one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks, offering open walking areas, panoramic coastal views, and a mix of history and cultural events throughout the year.

2. Location & Address

The castle is located at the end of the Fuengirola seafront near the river.
Address:
  Calle Tartesios, Fuengirola, Málaga, Spain
It connects easily with the promenade and riverside walking routes.

3. Opening Times & Accessibility

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00, with extended hours until 18:00 or 22:00 on weekends depending on events. The castle is free to enter.

Wheelchair access is limited, mainly due to the steep road leading up to the castle. Once inside, access is generally restricted to the ground level only, with uneven stone surfaces in some areas.

4. Parking

There are two main parking options nearby:

  • West side parking: €1 (paid)
  • East side parking: free. These are both great spots to park if you do not want to drive into Fuengirola.

This is one of the best parking areas in Fuengirola if you want to avoid driving into the town centre, especially during busy periods.

5. How to Get There

  • From Benalmádena / Torremolinos / Málaga:
Take the train to Cercanías Málaga C1 line to Fuengirola station, which is next to the main bus station. From there it’s around a 15–20 minute walk or short taxi ride.
  • From Marbella or La Cala de Mijas:
Local buses stop close to the castle and along the seafront road near the western end of Fuengirola.
  • On foot:
    Easy walk from the promenade.

6. Nearby Attractions

  • Miramar Shopping Centre
  • Riverside walking path next to the castle
  • Fuengirola promenade and beaches

7. What to Expect On Site

The castle is an open historic site rather than a fully restored interior attraction. Visitors will find:

  • stone walls and towers
  • open courtyards
  • walking paths and viewpoints
  • occasional events, markets, and concerts

It’s best seen as a relaxed walking and viewpoint location rather than a museum-style visit.

8. Tips for Visiting

  • There is very little shade, so avoid visiting in the middle of the day in summer
  • Wear comfortable shoes due to uneven stone surfaces
  • Check opening hours if planning a visit later in the day
  • Parking is the easiest option if you don’t want to drive into central Fuengirola

9. Overall Experience

Castillo Sohail is a simple but scenic attraction combining history, sea views, and open space. It works well as part of a wider walk along the river or promenade and is one of the easiest viewpoints to access in Fuengirola.
