The Alcazaba of Antequera, a 14th-century fortress, stands proudly atop a hill overlooking the Andalusian city of Antequera. Originally built as a military defense and royal residence, this well-preserved monument offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s rich history.
Divided into three sections, the Alcazaba includes the outer defensive wall, the inner wall with its lush gardens, and the imposing keep—a towering structure designed for last-resort defense. Inside, visitors can explore beautifully decorated rooms, including the throne room and royal apartments, as well as a chapel and a mosque, highlighting the cultural diversity of the time.
Though the castle has suffered damage over the centuries, it remains an important historical site and a top tourist destination. A visit to the Alcazaba is a must for history lovers and those keen to appreciate the stunning views of Antequera and its surrounding landscapes.
