The Plaza de España in Ronda has been beautifully restored, replacing its old cobblestones with durable granite, ensuring it remains a welcoming and practical space for visitors. As a sunny gathering spot, it is ideal for enjoying a meal, sipping a drink, or simply soaking up the lively atmosphere.
This plaza also holds historical significance, famously referenced in Ernest Hemingway's novel For Whom the Bell Tolls. The story recounts harrowing moments during the Spanish Civil War, where fascist sympathizers were thrown into the nearby gorge by an incensed mob, adding a layer of historical intrigue to its charm.
On one side of the plaza stands the Parador de Ronda hotel, housed in what was once the town hall, while the center features a statue of Antonio de los Ríos Rosas, a prominent 19th-century politician.
