Welcome to the Boardwalk in La Cala de Mijas

The boardwalk in La Cala de Mijas is one of the resort’s most popular attractions, stretching along the coastline with beautiful sea views, beaches, and easy walking routes. The wooden coastal path links different parts of the resort and is lined with beach bars, cafés, and relaxing places to stop, making it ideal for walking, cycling, or enjoying the Mediterranean scenery.

 Information on the Boardwalk

1. Overview

The boardwalk in La Cala de Mijas is one of the area’s most popular walking routes, following the coastline past beaches, beach bars, and sea views. Although the full planned Málaga coastal path is still far from complete, the La Cala section is one of the longest and best-developed parts currently open, stretching through Calahonda and close towards Cabopino.

2. Route & Location

The boardwalk follows the coastline from La Cala beach and Playa de La Butibamba, connecting different beach areas and residential zones along the coast. The route currently extends for several kilometres towards Calahonda and continues close to Cabopino.

It forms part of the wider Senda Litoral de Málaga project, an ambitious coastal path planned to eventually run from Nerja to Manilva, although many sections across the Costa del Sol remain unfinished.

3. What to Expect

Visitors can expect:

  • wooden coastal walkways
  • sea views and beach access
  • beachfront bars and chiringuitos
  • cafés and restaurants along the route
  • quieter beach sections away from the village centre

The route is mostly flat and suitable for relaxed walking, jogging, and cycling.

4. Nearby Attractions

  • Playa La Butibamba
  • La Cala village centre
  • beachfront restaurants and bars
  • Calahonda beaches
  • Cabopino sand dunes nearby

5. Tips for Walking the Boardwalk

  • Early morning and sunset are the best times for walking
  • Some sections offer very little shade during summer
  • Comfortable footwear is recommended for longer walks
  • The boardwalk can become busy around La Cala village during weekends and summer evenings

6. Overall Experience

The La Cala de Mijas boardwalk combines beaches, sea views, restaurants, and relaxed coastal scenery, making it one of the best seaside walking routes on the Costa del Sol. While the full Senda Litoral project is still incomplete, this section already offers one of the longest uninterrupted coastal walks currently available in the region.

The main village hotels include Hotel Carmen, VIK Gran Hotel Costa del Sol, and Orange House Hotel, all within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, and village centre.
