Carnaval de Málaga in Malaga begins a week before lent  so the starting date can vary from year to year. The carnival lasts six days and is packed with loads of fun activities mainly around the Plaza de la Constitucion. The carnival concludes with a  procession through the streets of Malaga starting from Calle Marques de Larios. The processions centre piece is a large papier-mâché anchovy which makes its way to La Malagueta beach. Here the anchovy comes to an end with the ritual of the burial of the anchovy. The fish is set on fire and burnt. There is  a large firework display after the burning and this marks the end of the carnival. This event  attracts thousands of revellers each year and has become a big day in the Malaga diary. 2024 date is from 03-11th February 2024

Andalusia Day is a regional holiday celebrated in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is celebrated on February 28th, the anniversary of the day in 1980 when the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia was approved by a majority of voters in a regional referendum. The day is marked by official ceremonies and cultural events, as well as parades and other celebrations in cities and towns throughout Andalusia. The day is also observed as a public holiday in all the provinces of Andalusia and many businesses and government offices are closed on this day.

Andalusia Day is a special day for the people of Andalusia, a region in southern Spain known for its rich history, culture and natural beauty. On this day, we celebrate the autonomy of our region and remember the hard-fought battle for self-government that was won on February 28th, 1980.
