The Virgin de la Peña Shrine, also known as the Sanctuary of the Virgin of la Peña, is a Catholic shrine in the town of Mijas in the province of Málaga, southern Spain. The shrine is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is located on the summit of the Peña de los Enamorados, a hill that overlooks the town. The chapel, which was built in the 18th century, contains a statue of the Virgin Mary that is believed to have been carved in the 16th century. The statue is highly revered by the local population and is the object of a major pilgrimage on August 15th every year. The Sanctuary of the Virgin of la Peña is an important landmark for the local Catholic community, and it is visited by many tourists every year.
